Is my data safe?

You are being asked to record your voice and answer questions about your memory. It is reasonable to want to know where that goes.

Your results are health information, and we treat them that way

Your recordings and scores are protected health information under HIPAA, the United States law that governs how health data is handled. That is not a marketing claim, it is a legal standard with obligations attached, and it is the same standard that applies to the records held by your doctor's office.

Data is encrypted in transit and stored on access-controlled infrastructure.

Who can see your results

you can. Your results belong to you.

If you choose to share them with a clinician or a family member, you can. Nobody else gets access because they asked, and we do not hand your results to anyone on the strength of a family relationship.

If you took the exam as part of a research study, what happens to your data is set out in the consent form for that study, which you read and agree to before you begin.

What we do not do

  • we do not sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to insurers.
  • We do not share your results with your insurance company.
  • We do not use your recordings to advertise to you.

Your voice recordings

the exam records your spoken answers because that is how it is scored. Those recordings are part of your health record and are held under the same protections as your results.

The exam records while you are answering questions. It is not listening at other times, and it is not a device that sits in your home.

Taking the exam for someone else

if you are helping a parent or a partner take the exam, the account and the results belong to them, not to you. That is deliberate. Their health information is theirs, and the fact that you set up the device does not change who it belongs to.

If they want you to see the results, they can share them with you. We would rather ask them than assume.

Questions, or want your data removed

if you want to know what we hold, or want it deleted, contact us and we will tell you exactly what there is and act on your request. You do not need a reason and you will not be talked out of it.
